About Chris Club

Chris Club is a club for people named Chris. Real ones. You prove your name once with a photo ID, and you get a numbered page, like chris.club/42.

Then you can collect badges, certify other Chrises, and join the web ring. That's it. It's for fun.

Chris, Kris, Christopher, Christina, Kristen, and many more all count. If any of your legal given names is on our list, you're in.

How to join

  1. Tell us your name and make an account.
  2. Pay the $2.50 fee. It pays for the ID check.
  3. Check your ID with Stripe.
  4. Get your number.

ID check questions

Who checks my ID?
Stripe does, through a service called Stripe Identity. The check happens on Stripe's page, not ours.
What does Stripe collect?
A photo of your government ID and a selfie. Stripe compares your face to the photo on your ID to make sure the ID is yours. Stripe asks for your consent before you start.
Why do you need it?
Anyone can type "Chris" into a form. The ID check is how we know you're a Chris. It also keeps it to one Chris, one number.
How many tries do I get?
One. If the check fails, or the name on your ID isn't a Chris name, you can't try again. There are no second Chrismces. The fee is not refunded either way.
What do you keep?
Only your verified given names and last name, and whether the check passed. We store the names encrypted. We use them to build the name on your page, in the format you choose. We never get your ID photo, selfie, ID number, date of birth, or address.
What happens to my ID photo and selfie?
As soon as the check finishes, pass or fail, we tell Stripe to redact it. That deletes the ID photo and selfie Stripe holds for us. Stripe may keep some data longer when the law requires it or to stop fraud.
How do I ask Stripe to delete its copy?
Email Stripe at [email protected], or use the form on Stripe's support site. You can read Stripe's privacy policy to learn more.
